If you're hoping for a new federal stimulus check in 2026, unfortunately, there isn't one coming. However, some states are still giving money to their residents.

The biggest program getting attention right now is Alaska's Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD).

This yearly payment comes from Alaska's oil money and is given to people who live in the state. The application period has already closed, and the state is now processing applications and sending out payments.

How Much Money and Who Can Get It?

Eligible Alaska residents can receive $1,000 this year. To qualify, you must:

  • Live in Alaska
  • Plan to stay in the state
  • Have completed your application before the deadline

If you applied, you can check your payment status on the myPFD website. This site shows real-time updates and lets you confirm your address and how you want to receive your money.

When Are Payments Being Sent?

Payments are not sent all at once. Instead, they go out in groups based on when your application was approved.

  • If your application was approved by March 11, 2026, your payment was sent on March 19, 2026.
  • If your application was approved by April 8, 2026, your payment was sent on April 16, 2026.
  • If your application was approved by May 13, 2026, your payment will be sent on May 21, 2026.

If your application needed extra paperwork or review, it may take 6 to 8 weeks longer to process.

Watch Out for Scams

State officials are warning people about fake messages and scams. Some scammers are pretending to be government workers and asking for passwords or personal information.

Remember: The state will never send you a message asking for your password or sensitive details. If you get a suspicious message, ignore it and report it.

How This Money Can Help With Housing and Living Costs

For many Alaskans, this $1,000 payment can make a real difference in covering everyday expenses. Here's how it can help:

  • Rent or Mortgage Payments: The money can go toward paying part of your monthly housing costs, helping you stay current on bills.
  • Utility Bills: Rising costs for heating, electricity, and water can add up quickly. This payment can help cover those expenses.
  • Groceries and Essentials: With food prices still high, the extra cash can help families afford groceries and household necessities.
  • Emergency Savings: If your bills are covered, you can save this money for unexpected costs like car repairs or medical bills.

For families living paycheck to paycheck, this type of direct payment provides meaningful relief during tough economic times.
